St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer

Team LIAC (L to R): Katie, Ashley, Chrissy, Tracey, Erica, Heather

Yesterday, along with the Long Island Alumnae Chapter of Delta Delta Delta, I walked in the 2015 St. Jude Walk/Run to end Childhood Cancer!

The walk was a terrific success and it was incredible to see the number of people that came out to support such a noble cause! For a hospital that runs primarily on donations fundraising opportunities like this one are so important.

So a big thank you to everyone that supported me, supported my team, donated to me and donated to my team.

Our team raised over $1,000 dollars to donate to the hospital! We were not the only Tri Deltas walking or the only ones with a team. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a cause near and dear to every Delta’s heart between all the teams, in every walk across the country, Tri Delta continues to selflessly support St. Jude.

St. Jude will not stop until they end childhood cancer and Deltas will not stop until they reach their goal!

#NursesUnite

Nurses Unite …

Nurses are a force to be reckoned with! They are strong individuals and it takes an extremely special person to be a nurse. I would know I was raised by a nurse.

I’ve been around nurses my entire life. They’re some of my mom’s best friends and as of recently they’re an incredible support system. So if anyone truly wants to know what it means for nurses to unite, the hash tag is great but real life is so much better!

Because a nurse is not just a nurse! A nurse is someone’s parent, sibling, friend, colleague, support system, cheerleader, aunt, uncle, and so much more …

Creativity In Progress ...

I am a writer.

Aside from blogging I haven’t done much writing in the last few months though.

But now it’s time, time to get the ball rolling again and get back into a routine of writing and editing and revision. I’m excited but also a little nervous because it’s been so long.

If I let everything that scared me about being a writer stop me I wouldn’t have written or self-published my first book. There’s nothing quite like putting your heart and soul into something then putting it out there for the masses. I’ve seen the way readers will tear your work apart; I know rejection is part of the path I’ve chosen.

Failure is not an option for me so as long as I’m writing and creating I’m succeeding. Maybe I won’t be the next big name out there that doesn’t mean I won’t keep trying though.

Keep an eye out for my next work! I’ve raised the bar and my standards, it’s only up from here.

Do I miss my job?

Do I miss my job?

The number of times I’ve been asked this since switching, more than I care to admit. I find it to be an odd question anyway; leaving my former job for my current one was MY decision. There were no outside or contributing factors to my leaving Audi other than a decision I made for myself. I was ready for a change nothing more and nothing less.

So do I miss my job? I guess the answer would be no.

If you were looking at a simple answer that is, the simple answer would be no but really it’s much more complicated than that.

Because a job is not just a job; I wasn’t locked away in a room by myself for 8 hours a day when I left the house everyday. I went to a business and interacted with people. I talked to dozens of people everyday and I made friends. I made friends that I never would have met anywhere else in any other walk of life.

Everyday I learned something new and developed a set of skills, learned a language, that not every ordinary person would understand.

I’m not going to lie I was a girl playing in the boys club and if I’m being honest you need to be a tough girl to play in that club. I learned a lot. I’ve got tough skin because of it. The experience I took from it and all that I learned I’m thankful for.

My new job was a fairly lateral move, similar work but different environment and for that I knew I would be fine. That the move was not something I needed to be worried about.

So do I miss my job? No.

Do I miss everything else? Yes.

Leaving was bittersweet for me; I was leaving behind my comfort zone and what I have known for the last 3 years! I was leaving behind friends that I had grown accustomed to seeing and talking to on a daily basis. I needed to accept the fact that I would be joining a new environment and find my place in it.

But I am so ready for this change! After the last few months my family has had we are more than ready for a change in a positive way! This is something to be excited about and it’s been nothing but good on all sides.

I’m finding my way in the world and moving up to bigger and better things. My friends are still my friends and so supportive of my move even if it meant leaving.

Do I miss my job?

The answer is not so simple because a job is more than just a job.

St. Jude Give Thanks Walk

DONATE HERE

All right ya’ll! I’m back after a brief hiatus! But I am back with a bang and ready to announce that this year I will be participating in the …

2015 ST. JUDE WALK/RUN
To End Childhood Cancer

For those of you that are familiar with St. Jude walks you know that normally they are held in NYC in November, however this year the walk will take place on September 26, 2015 and we will walk across the Brooklyn Bridge!

I have joined a team to support the Long Island Alumnae Chapter of Delta Delta Delta, my team and I each have a fundraising goal! With a little over two months until the event I beseech you my friends, family and lovely readers; I invite you to join in the fun or if you can’t donations are always welcome!

I have set up a fundraising page through the St. Jude website where anyone generous enough can support me, as well as LIAC, in the fight to help St. Jude end childhood cancer.

As a Delta Delta Delta woman this is a cause very near and dear to my heart; because believe it or not even though I have not suffered from childhood cancer I have known people in my life that have had to fight the good fight. That is why I am so supportive of such an amazing cause!

Because at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has pushed the survival rate for childhood cancer from 20% (1962) to 80% (2015).

Because at St. Jude no family receives a bill for treatment.

Did you know that the doctors and scientists at St. Jude share their research and developments? They believe that no child should suffer and by sharing their research they make it available to save children that cannot reach their hospital.

In 1999 Delta Delta Delta entered a partnership with St. Jude Children’s Reasearch Hospital. Since then my organization has proudly raised more than $30 million dollars for St. Jude; since then we have donated a Teen Room to the hospital and named a Patient Care Floor in the Chili’s Care Center.

Our current goal is to raise $60 million in 10 years and donate Tri Delta Place! Tri Delta’s are nothing if not passionate about our philanthropic partner!

Thank you all in advance for your support; past, present and future! It means a lot to me! I hope you can all help me reach my goal and support my team!
